As you are probably aware, a dedicated team of volunteers has been working to preserve the precious memories of older people who live independently or in aged care, like our Mildura retirement village residents. The publication of Mallees Living Histories Book 4 next month will bring the total number of stories published in the last four years to more than 50. The majority of those stories were written during COVID lockdowns. Clearly, they have done a lot to alleviate the loneliness and isolation of those difficult times. The project has been self-funded thanks to generous supporters, and each ‘storyteller’ receives a bundle of books to share with family and friends.
However, given the significance of their insights into our region’s lived and living history, the stories must be widely shared. To accomplish this, we intend to create a website where stories can be freely accessed. We have budgeted $15,000 for this goal and have partnered with ‘Kickstarter’ to facilitate crowd funding.
