When should I move into an aged care home?

We know making the decision to move into an aged care home can be an emotional time.
Perhaps everyday tasks have become difficult, or you no longer feel confident about coping on your own. Maybe you’ve had a fall or an illness which requires ongoing care or a short stay in one of our Mildura aged care residences to make a full recovery.

What kind of residential aged care services are available?

Princes Court offers several aged care services to suit your needs including low and high care needs, aged care services at home, residential dementia care and memory support, respite care, and palliative care.

How much does an aged care home cost?
Moving into an aged care residence is a big decision and it’s important you have a good understanding of the fees and costs associated. Everyone’s circumstances are a little bit different, so costs will vary depending on your situation.

Princes Court focuses on a ‘Person Centred’ approach to all our Mildura aged care packages. This means our Mildura retirement village residents and aged care support recipients are actively involved in putting together their own care plan alongside our healthcare professionals. This ensures their package is the right fit, and all individualised needs are being met. A person-centred approach can sometimes include relatives too and provides our clients with much-needed control over their own lives. 

Aged care support doesn’t look the same for everyone. Princes Court offers a range of different services and levels of care to prioritise you or your loved one’s safety and happiness. This includes aged care services at home, accommodation in our Mildura retirement village, or a position in one of our aged care residences 

If you are starting to find everyday tasks difficult, have had a recent fall, injury or illness, or are feeling ready to retire, it might be time to consider what aged care services are available to you to maintain your comfort, safety and happiness.

Our friendly staff are happy to talk through any questions you may and point you in the right direction. You can also contact My Aged Care, who will be able to assess your eligibility for government assistance.

This all depends on the length of your ACAT (eligibility assessment), and the availability with your chosen provider, however extreme circumstances can be taken into account Speak to one of our friendly staff for more information regarding a tailored timeframe.

The Australian Government provides subsidises for eligible Australians to keep aged care costs as affordable and accessible as possible. This can range from help at home to full residential care depending on your circumstances and means test.

Funding is available to support a range of citizens who are 65 years or older (50 years or older for Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people) who have:

  • Noticed a recent change in physical or mental capabilities
  • Experienced a change in current help arrangements
  • Been diagnosed with a medical condition
  • Experienced a recent fall, hospital admission, or experienced reduced mobility

My Aged Care is a service dedicated to providing elderly Australians, their families and their carers with critical information about aged care services and subsidises in Australia.

My Aged Care will organise an assessment of your current needs to determine your eligibility.

The Aged Care Assessment Service (ACAS) is an assessment conducted by a team of dedicated health professionals to determine your current difficulties and most appropriate type of care package.

The assessment team can be made up of a nurse, doctor, physiotherapist, psychologist, social worker, or other required specialist. The team work together to assess which services may best suit you and can take up to 6 weeks to complete.

Yes! You will just need to be able to cover the associated costs.

Yes! This can be done in a few easy steps. You will just need to:

  • Give your current aged care  provider 3 weeks’ notice (in writing) and provide them with a confirmed end date.
  • Contact My Aged Care and let them know that you would like to swap providers. They will reactivate your referral code and organise for a transfer on their side of things.
  • Provide us with the reactivated referral code, transfer dates and any other information you have been given and we will do the rest.
At Home Care Services

At Home care is tailored to specifically suit the needs of you or your loved one and varies based on the level of care required. Your aged care package may include just one or two services at home once a week right up to full care 7 days a week, depending on you and your situation.

  • Meals and food preparation
  • Bathing, hygiene and grooming
  • Nursing (to monitor medical conditions at home)
  • Health services such as physiotherapy, podiatry, hearing and vision services
  • Support for continence or impairments such as dementia
  • Respite options (to give you a break for a short period of time)
  • Assistance in making your home safer and more comfortable for you with installations such as shower railings, easy access taps, ramps
  • Cleaning and yard maintenance
  • Transport and social outings to assist you in interacting with your community
  • Social support and companionship in the home

Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP) is a low-level support option for people who only require assistance with one or two services. At home care packages offer the same services but can accommodate for a higher level of care.

There are 4 levels of home care available to accommodate for a variety of needs.

Level 1 offers basic care up to the value of $9,179.75 per year and might look like a cleaning or transport service once or twice a week.

Level 2 offers low care options up to the value of $16,147.60 per year, and might look like gardening, meals and hygiene assistance 3 or 4 times a week.

Level 3 provides intermediate care up to the value of $35,138.55 per year, and may include special therapy such as physiotherapy, medical assistance and meals 5-6 times a week.

Level 4 offers high care to the value of $53,268.10 per year and may look like assistance with hygiene, meals, cleaning and medical 6-7 days a week.

Retirement Village Living

Units at the Princes Court Mildura retirement village are leased under a ‘Lease for life’ concept. Village residents enter an agreement with Princes Court which entitles them to occupy the unit for a maximum of 49 years, however you can choose to terminate your lease sooner.

A lump sum payment is required upfront to secure the unit, which is organised through Collie & Tierney Real Estate, who can be contacted here.

Yes, residents at our Mildura retirement villages are responsible for the normal costs of living in a home including electricity, phone and gas, however residents are not liable for their water usage. There is also a daily maintenance fee which is paid monthly in advance, and allows for the upkeep of common areas, insurance, security and emergency systems.

Yes, there is currently a wait list managed by Collie & Tierney.  It is free to join the wait list and you will be kept updated on your applications progress. You can apply to be added to the wait list here.

To be eligible for a place in one of our retirement villages in Mildura, you and your spouse must be aged 55 or over, retired from full time work, and have the ability to meet financial requirements of occupancy. The village is designed for independent living, meaning you will still be required to live independently within the community. If you would like to know what type of additional assistance can be made available to you, please speak with one of our friendly team members.

Our Mildura retirement village consists of 55 independent living units in 2 and 3 bedroom configurations, some with double garages. Residences have all been designed with modern appliances and consideration given to resident’s needs and living standards.

The village is fully landscaped, with the inclusion of fruit trees and a community vegetable garden allowing residents to maintain their active lifestyle.

Residents also have many community facilities available for their leisure activities including a library, billiard room, “Ozone” cinema, fitness centre, hair salon, auditorium and meeting room. Craft, computer facilities and a range of other social activities are arranged by the Village Social committee which welcomes all residents as members.

There is also a lockable caravan and boat parking area and a men’s hobby shed which provides an opportunity for those with handyman skills and other similar interests.

Our Mildura aged care village residents are offered a range of physical exercise including:

  • Walking groups
  • Gentle assisted exercise
  • Chair exercise
  • A variety of sports equipment such as bats and balls, indoor bowls, skittles, hooky board, shuffle board and more

The village is fully landscaped with fruit trees and a community vegetable garden, allowing those who enjoy gardening to continue their hobby. Our gardening staff are always happy to have an extra pair of hands of deck.

Residents also have many community facilities available for their leisure activities including a library, billiard room, “Ozone” cinema, fitness centre, hair salon, auditorium and meeting room. Craft, computer facilities and a range of other social activities are arranged by the Village Social committee which welcomes all residents as members.

There is also a lockable caravan and boat parking area and a men’s hobby shed which provides an opportunity for those with handyman skills and other similar interests.

Absolutely! So long as you and/or your spouse are still able to care for your furry companion.

Yes, you may have guests in your home.

Yes, so long as you have a valid driver’s license.

Residential Care Living

Princes Court Residential Care offers a range of different Mildura aged care living options to suit your individual needs.

All of our residential homes are part of a refurbishment program enabling ongoing improvements, which keeps our homes to a consistently high standard.

Each resident enjoys the privacy of their own spacious room including ensuite, plus access to round-the-clock care including everything from meals and grooming to medical attention. 

The following levels of care are available at Princes Court residential facilities:

  • Lower care needs – which can look like personal care and occasional nursing care.
  • Higher care needs – which provides continuous nursing care.
  • Dementia specific care – which provides those displaying severe or challenging behaviours with a secure living environment.
  • Palliative care – which provides support through the end stages of life by offering a physically, spiritually and emotionally comfortable environment. Clinical care is provided by a multi-disciplinary team of health professionals to ensure a comfortable and dignified end.

Unfortunately, you would not be able to bring a pet with you when moving into one of our communal aged care facilities due to health concerns, but you can take your pet with you when moving into our Princes Court Mildura retirement village, or arrange for a regular pet visit as part of our on-site activities.

Yes, you will just need to let us know in advance and a small donation of $5 will be required on the day.

 

We are proud to accomodate for all of our aged care residents’ spiritual preferences.

Our residents enjoy home cooked style meals that are prepared in our own kitchen, with meals catering for those with special dietary requirements. The wonderful interactive atmosphere of our large dining room allows residents a social dining experience.

You may also keep a bar fridge in your room with all your favourites if you would like to.

Yes! Our residential care facilities offer the full hotel treatment with cleaning, laundry, meals, grooming and medical assistance all included.

A means assessment is an assessment of your income and assets undertaken by the government to determine if you qualify for additional government assistance.
